About County Basemaps

The Columbia Center provides prefab basemaps for selected Texas Counties. The basemaps are available as standard PDF files, GeoPDF files, MXD/data bundles and ESRI layer packages. The MXD/data bundles are ready for use by Desktop ArcGIS users as a basis for county-level projects. Layer packages are ideal for incorporating into ArcExplorer and other free GIS client software. All these data are provided free and may be used freely for any purpose.

How to Download County Basemaps

Select counties by clicking the map or typing the county name in Selected Counties:.

Double-click to zoom in and out as desired.

Select the desired data type(s) by clicking the file type checkboxes.

1. PDFs are standard Adobe PDF files;
2. GeoPDFs are geospatially enhanced PDFs (Download a browser toolbar for GeoPDFs HERE);
3. MXD + Data are zip bundles containing an ESRI MXD file and an ESRI personal Geodatabase containing all the data needed for the basemap. These bundles can be downloaded, unzipped and opened with ArcGIS as a starting place for any County-based project.
4. ESRI Layer Packages contain symbolized data layers suitable for use in ESRI and other desktop GIS software. Use these if you intend to make your own layouts but want pre-symbolized layers.

Clicking the "Include Map Books" check boxes will deliver Adobe PDF packages or GeoPDF packages containing a master grid and detailed maps for each section of the selected county. Map Books are currently available for Brazoria, Cameron, El Paso, Ft. Bend, Gregg, Harris, Hidalgo, Jefferson, Montgomery, Nueces, Orange, and Smith Counties. Map books include the standard county PDF or GEOPdf as well.
